My wife and I have always tried to be good stewards of the earth but our efforts increased dramatically after the birth of our children. Two of our three children have asthma and during their early years we began to notice how many children in the DFW area have asthma – a much higher percentage than either one of us could remember from our early years. Global Warming was just starting to be discussed back then but air and water quality were and still are two tangible topics everyone will listen to. To this day when I talk to others about sustainability I talk about air quality and water quality/availability. Global Warming is a controversial topic for many people in Texas so I have learned that people are more likely to act if they can understand the challenges our children could have obtaining quality water and breathing healthy air if we continue to produce energy the same way we have for the last century! We made a decision to do three things to promote the transition to sustainable living:
- Set the example, don’t just talk … ACT
- Your buying power is your most powerful tool, buy products that promote sustainable living.
- Make responsible purchases, don’t just be a “Consumer”!
